Six years ago, on June 5, 2018, FindJodi dedicated four billboards in Mason City, Iowa, to mark Jodi Huisentruit’s 50th birthday.
The billboards appealed for someone to come forward with information to help solve Jodi’s abduction that occurred just before daybreak on June 27, 1995, outside the Key Apartments. Jodi was getting into her car to go to KIMT-TV studios to anchor the morning news when she was attacked from behind. It happened just twelve steps from Jodi’s apartment building where she lived alone in a second-floor unit.
Billboards have been present at various locations in Mason City since 2018. This year, days after Jodi’s 56th birthday, a new board was put up along eastbound Highway 122/US 18 by the Mason City Airport. The message: “Don’t sit in silence…the time to talk is NOW.” Reagan Outdoor Advertising generously provided this second billboard, in addition to the one FindJodi purchased previously on Highway 106 by the former Mason City Country Club. Jodi attended a Mason City Chamber of Commerce golf tournament dinner at the club the night before she disappeared.
Over the years, our FindJodi billboards ensured Jodi’s smiling image was always visible in the city where she was a popular morning news television anchor, a constant reminder Jodi’s abduction is still unsolved.
The billboards have received extensive local and network media coverage, including an episode on CBS’s “48 Hours.” They have also generated many tips about Jodi’s case.
But almost 29 years since Jodi vanished just before daybreak, her family and loved ones still wait for answers and the opportunity to finally bring her home to Long Prairie, Minnesota.
Our FindJodi team will once again host a small memorial event on June 27th to honor Jodi and appeal for information. The event will include a message from Jodi’s family.
