Just more than month after our FindJodi.com billboard in Mason City, Iowa, was defaced, it’s still a mystery who was responsible and what was the motive. But thanks to donation to FindJodi.com we've been able to put another billboard up for months to come.
A billboard our FindJodi.com team dedicated in Mason City, Iowa in honor of Jodi Huisentruit has been vandalized. The board was spray painted with the name of a former Mason City police investigator, sometime in the past couple of days. It also includes the words 'machine shed' in the writings.

The recent 48 Hours special focused on Jodi Huisentruit focused on two possible persons of interests: John Vansice and Tony Jackson. There’s been no sign of Jodi for more than 23 years since she was abducted from her Mason City, Iowa, apartment parking lot. She was running late to anchor the morning news at KIMT TV when someone grabbed her from behind at about 4:30 a.m. as she attempted to get into her Mazda Miata. I’m frequently asked which man I think was most likely to have abducted Jodi. My answer remains the same: Both men clearly needed to be investigated, but it could turn out to be none of the above.
What’s the buzz? I found myself asking that question, along with millions of other television viewers on Saturday night, when we tuned in to watch CBS’s 48 Hours program on the 1995 disappearance of Jodi Huisentruit. After several pre-show conversations with one of the show’s producers, I thought I had a good idea of what would be shown. However, I will admit to having some misgivings, as CBS touted “new” information and “never-before-seen” video footage in promoting the show. As a former TV journalist, I’ve been known to be skeptical when I hear those kinds of phrases tossed around!
The “48 Hours” recent show on Jodi Huisentruit focused on two people who have been investigated in connection with her abduction twenty-three years ago: her friend John Vansice and a convicted serial rapist, Tony Jackson. One of the questions we’ve heard about a lot since the show was whether Vansice or Jackson have alibis for June 27, 1995, the morning Jodi disappeared.
Jodi Huisentruit’s sister, JoAnn Nathe, and along with several of Jodi’s friends and former coworkers at KIMT-TV, were among the people interviewed for the 48 Hours show, “FindJodi.” The episode aired Saturday night on CBS. Jodi’s family released this statement Sunday night about the show, appealing for help to bring Jodi home.
The CBS 48 Hours special 'FindJodi' generated a lot of interest in Jodi's case. As a result, FindJodi.com saw the most visits in a single day in the history of the website (which more than doubled the previous record held several months ago). After several decades searching for a serial killer and rapist, Sacramento, California, law enforcement officials today announced a DNA match had led them to a 72-year-old man who only became a suspect less than a week ago. Joseph James DeAngelo was arrested in a quiet Sacramento-area neighborhood where he'd lived for more than 30 years. Our FindJodi.com team will continue to closely watch this case, wondering if a similar break might lead to finding Jodi Huisentruit's abductor -- perhaps not far from where she disappeared in Mason City, Iowa, and perhaps involving someone like a Joseph DeAngelo who hadn't even been on investigators' radar in the past.
