Mason City Police personnel search for more remains near Winnebago River
(04.01.21) — Mason City Police have issued a news release stating they will continue to search the Winnebago River for additional human remains. Again, there is no indication that there is any connection to the Jodi Huisentruit investigation. Last summer, the remains of a kayaker missing since 2019 were found in the same area.
Today’s release reads as follows:

Re: Human Remains Investigation
“On March 11, 2021, human remains were found on the north shore of the Winnebago River near Illinois Avenue. This morning, law enforcement personnel will be returning to the area to search for additional remains. The Mason City Police Department is being assisted in this investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the State Medical Examiner’s Office, the Cerro Gordo County Emergency Management Agency (EMA), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and City of Mason City Operations and Maintenance.
This discovery remains under investigation. We are working with the DCI and the State Medical Examiner’s Office on identification. That process will take several weeks.
Birch Drive will be closed from Illinois to Highway 122 today during the time that teams are working in the area. We appreciate the community’s help in keeping the area free of traffic congestion and obstruction while personnel are working in the area.
