[Post-Bulletin] Answer Man, there’s a play coming up in Spring Valley next week about the disappearance of KIMT-TV news anchor Jodi Huisentruit. I’ve seen different people get credit for writing it. Who wrote it?
The play is called “Fade to Black” and was written by Gary Peterson, a former news director at KAAL-TV, but “adapted for the stage” by Debi Neville, a frequent freelance writer for this paper. Neville also is involved with the Brave Community Theatre in Spring Valley, where the play gets its premiere June 27-30.
A story in the Mason City, Iowa, newspaper says that the Huisentruit family is aware of the play and gave its OK to the project. For more on the show, call (507) 951-4394. Tickets also are available at Sunshine Foods and Chateau de Chic in Spring Valley.
June 27 is the 17th anniversary of Huisentruit’s disappearance. For those of us in the news business, that’s how time flies … We’ve been following this story for a long time, and we’ll keep at it until the facts are known. Huisentruit was a news anchor at KIMT in Mason City and apparently was abducted while on her way to work in 1995. She was 27 at the time.
Peterson, by the way, has an excellent and informative website called FindJodi.com, where stories and video about the case are archived. The website and nonprofit organization is now based in Orlando, Fla. Also interesting is that they take news tips directly, rather than steer users to law enforcement.
IMHO, anyone with information on the case, no matter how seemingly trivial or sketchy, should call law enforcement first. If you have a tip, call the Mason City police at (641) 421-3636.
