I've always had an interest in the case, and I live only a few hours from Mason City so I remember when it happened. I recently became interested in following up with new developments and found your site. My reading has still left me with several questions maybe some of you can answer for me.
1. The journals. I understand that one of the retired police chief's wife had the journal. Was it ever proven why they had those?? Did the police have a copy of them as well the whole duration of the time or not until she mailed them a copy of it? I've not seen too much discussed about that whole situation and am interested in how that came about. Why did the wife mail it in, has anything 'interesting' been leaked from the journals?
2. Was there or wasn't there blood at the scene? I've read both.
3. "DRAG MARKS" at the scene. What exactly are drag marks and how does one identify drag marks in a paved parking lot?
4. I understand there was a silver van seen at the scene and JVS had a silver van. Was that never searched? I don't understand why it seems that there has been so little immediate focus on JVS given that he was admittedly the last person seen with Jodi.

I also was wondering about blood at the scene. I have heard that there was but I'm not certain. If there was blood, was there ever a dna test?

DNA testing was in its infancy in 1995. it's has been a game changer with modern testing. Isn't it strange how the blood went “poof” when it was needed the most?

I've always considered the diary to be the smoking gun in this case. The chief's wife releasing of several pages may have been a shot across the bow warning several people to stay away from her and her family. It may be protection leverage.

I think the journals are significant, too. The Globe Gazette said only selected passages were released. I would love to know what else was in her journal. Maybe something about a new man in her life, possibly someone who played in the golf tournament that day, possibly someone who was in her apartment the night before she disappeared, who perhaps was seen leaving the apartment by someone else who was obsessed with Jodi...

Thunderkloud: I agree. Where did it go? Was it even there in the first place? If they have it, couldn't it be tested now? I know it's very expensive, but dna has solved so many cold cases. I would love to know more about this if anyone else has facts on it.
I also aree with you both that the journals could be very significant. To me any small thing could be what breaks the case.

We need fresh eyes and perspective on this case. I wish we could get Yolanda and Kelly and the rest of the Cold Justice crew out to Mason City, especially with the anniversary coming up. I wonder if the MCPD would welcome the help of this tv show?
