For centuries cameras have been used to document and preserve events in life.
Both still and video cameras play a big part in saving images of our history. Cameras are used for personal, artistic, and professional realms. We’ve all have taken pictures and video for various reasons throughout our life. How often have you gone back and reminisced over those photos of your childhood, those special vacations or events? Our memories can only hold so much and sometimes we lose some details in our memory. But the pictures capture a snapshot of an occasion forever. I can recall several times in my personal life when I’ve looked at a picture and couldn’t recall when it was taken or had to ask who that was in the picture.

The old adage “a picture is worth a thousand words” is ever so true. Every photo has a story behind and within it. In law enforcement photos and video are used to document crime scenes. Those photos become evidence and oftentimes are presented in a court of law. I’ve had to testify several times to what was contained in a photo and sometimes to what wasn’t in the photo. A well-documented crime scene both written and in photographs can make a case for you. It’s hard for a suspect/defendant to deny facts presented in photographs. When a suspect gives you a statement to what happened and a photo contradicts it, it’s priceless!
Part of documenting a crime scene may also include photographing or videoing spectators at the scene. Perpetrators have been known to come back to the scene of the crime to observe all the commotion. It is also possible the perpetrator may attend a news conference covering their crime. I believe Jodi’s murderer may have been captured in a photograph or video just prior to her disappearance. Two significant events occurred a few short days and weeks before Jodi disappeared; her birthday party and a golf tournament.
