I have heard the theory several times that Jodi might have been made to disappear because she was working on a story about the Pruin case or drugs in the area. I am not a local, I live in a state far away, so the only sense of Jodi as a reporter I have is from clips of her broadcasts shown in shows about her disappearance. I mean no disrespect to Jodi at all, but she seems to me to have done mostly light pieces, she strikes me as more of a tv personality than a hard-nosed, gritty reporter out there digging up the dirt, doing anything to get to the truth about a story. Forgive me if I am wrong, as I said I mean no disrespect and I am only going by what I've seen, but would she have really been working on an expose like that about murder or drugs? Of course, I suppose it is possible since she did want to move up to larger national news market maybe she might have been doing that to "prove" herself, to show that she could tackle serious topics too. Or maybe a personal interest in her friend's death caused her to use her journalistic skills to try to solve the mystery surrounding his death and resulted in her becoming a mystery too.

Her station manager at KIMT has said that she was not a crime reporter and would not have assigned her a story like that. Even if she was, I doubt he would have assigned her Billy's story due to a conflict of interest.
If she was looking into Billy Pruin's death, it was on her own.
